How to Choose a Premium Filter Coffee Machine
Quality first, not volume first
Most filter coffee machines are designed around one question: how much can it brew, how fast. The Moccamaster KBG Select is designed around a different one: how good can the coffee actually taste. It is a specialty-grade brewer, handmade in the Netherlands by Technivorm, and everything about its build reflects that priority.
The copper heating element is the core of it. Copper conducts and holds heat more evenly than the elements used in most consumer filter machines, and Technivorm has tuned it to brew consistently within the 92-96C range that specialty roasters consider optimal for extraction. That range underpins the SCA Certified Brewer standard, an industry benchmark most filter machines are never built to meet.
Precision without a wait
Brewing at the right temperature does not mean brewing slowly, a common assumption about quality-focused equipment. A full 1.25 litre carafe is ready in under six minutes, matching much less precise machines on speed while producing a noticeably better cup. The hotplate then holds the carafe at serving temperature without over-stewing it, so the last cup out of the pot tastes close to the first.
Mechanically simple, deliberately so
There is no digital display, no programming and no electronics to date or fail. Operation is a single on/off switch: fill the reservoir, load a No.4 filter and ground coffee, and switch it on. That simplicity is also why Technivorm can stand behind it with a 5 year manufacturer warranty, the longest in our entire coffee machine range and a genuine statement about build quality rather than a marketing figure.
Quality-first versus volume-first
If your priority is serving the most cups possible to a busy counter as cheaply as possible, our Buffalo CW305 and CT815 are the better fit, they are built specifically for high-volume throughput at a lower price point. The Moccamaster KBG Select is for the opposite priority: a specialty coffee shop, a quality-focused office, or a catering operation where filter coffee is treated as a product worth getting right, not an afterthought next to the espresso machine.
The short version
The Moccamaster KBG Select brews to a genuinely specialty standard, with a copper heating element hitting the optimal 92-96C range in under six minutes a carafe, backed by the longest warranty in our range. It is the machine to choose when filter coffee quality is the point, not just filter coffee volume.
